William Petersen: Marching Virginians, Hokie Pep Band, euphonium, tuba
William Petersen joined the faculty of the Department of Music at Virginia Tech in 2005 where he serves as Assistant Director of The Marching Virginians, Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium and Director of the Hokies Pep Band and University Campus Band. In addition, Petersen teaches courses in aural theory, coaches chamber music and serves as the tubist in the Virginia Tech Faculty Brass Quintet. He is co-sponsor for the Eta Beta chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Service Fraternity.
Mr. Petersen is active as an adjudicator, conductor and clinician of marching and concert bands in several states. He has served as Principal Tubist with the Indiana University Wind Ensemble and has appeared as a tuba soloist in the Washington, D.C. area. Petersen earned the Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music (Wind Conducting) degrees from the Indiana University School of Music where he was active in all areas of the Department of Bands, serving as Manager of the IU Summer Music Clinic and Director of the Soccer, Women’s Basketball, Volleyball and All-Campus Bands. He has studied conducting with Stephen Pratt, Ray Cramer and Doug Stotter; marching band techniques and arranging with David Woodley; and tuba with the international renowned soloist and tuba pedagogue Daniel Perantoni.
In addition to his duties at Virginia Tech, Petersen serves on the faculty of the Indiana University Summer Music Clinic each June coaching euphonium, tuba and teaching courses in brass pedagogy and conducting.
Mr. Petersen previously served as Assistant Director of Bands at La Porte High School in La Porte, TX. He holds memberships in CBDNA, NBA, MENC, VMEA, Kappa Kappa Psi and is an Honorary Member of Tau Beta Sigma, National Honorary Band Service Sorority.
