Richard Cole: history, literature
A graduate of Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University) with additional studies at Indiana University and Aspen School of Music, Professor Cole taught in public schools for many years before joining the faculty at Virginia Tech in 1971. At Virginia Tech he served as Chairman of the Music Program and as Associate Head of the Department of Music.
Professor Cole has been active as a pianist and as conductor of several community orchestras including the New River Valley Symphony. He was director of recording for the Department of Music for ten years during which time he produced recordings which were aired on WVTF Public Radio in Roanoke, Virginia. Currently Professor Cole teaches Music History and Literature, specializing in American Music and Music in General Studies.
